China opens borders to tourists after 3 years of restrictions
After three years of pandemic border restrictions, China is fully reopening to foreign visitors – including tourists.
Starting from March 15, 2023, China will fully reopen its borders and allow tourists back into the country after three years of pandemic restrictions.
China is one of the latest major countries to resume tourism. The issuance of all types of visas will begin on Wednesday. Visa-free travel will also be suspended at destinations such as Hainan Island, as well as for cruise ships calling at Shanghai that did not require a visa before the pandemic.
The visa liberalization follows China’s approval of outbound group tours for Chinese citizens.
China ended the “zero-COVID” policy in early December 2022, and starting January 8, 2023, opened its borders for family reunions and ended the mandatory quarantine for international arrivals.
