ChatGPT Suffers Global Outage Lasting 133 Minutes

On September 3, millions of users worldwide experienced a major outage of ChatGPT, the AI-powered chatbot developed by OpenAI. The service stopped functioning across its web platform as well as on iOS and Android apps.

The disruption affected nearly all of ChatGPT’s core features. A total of 23 components went offline, including login, the web interface, mobile applications, WhatsApp, phone services, advanced data analysis, and more.

According to Downdetector, the highest number of complaints came from the Netherlands — over 2,700 reports. About 82% of users reported chatbot-related issues, 15% faced website problems, and 3% encountered login errors.

The outage was reported in the UK, Germany, Italy, the U.S., Japan, and several other countries. Social media platforms were quickly flooded with complaints from users unable to access ChatGPT’s services.

OpenAI confirmed the issue immediately and said its engineers began working to fix it. The company announced full restoration of services at 17:23 Astana time, after more than two hours of troubleshooting.

In total, ChatGPT remained inaccessible for 133 minutes. This was not the first major disruption — similar technical problems were recorded in June 2025.
