Central Asian Countries Adopt Declaration to Protect Wildlife

The environment ministers of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have signed a declaration aimed at strengthening efforts to protect wildlife across Central Asia. The document was adopted in Samarkand during the 20th Conference of the Parties to CITES, Kazinform reports.

The declaration outlines plans to enhance coordination between environmental agencies, customs authorities, law-enforcement bodies and judicial institutions. The countries also agreed to establish joint monitoring teams to support the preservation of wild fauna and flora.

During the conference, delegations discussed mechanisms for rapid information exchange and opportunities to strengthen cross-border cooperation to combat poaching and illegal wildlife trafficking.
