Central Asia – European Union Summit Kicks Off in Samarkand
The first Central Asia – European Union summit has officially begun in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is chairing the event. In his opening remarks, he expressed gratitude to European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and the leaders of Central Asian nations for their participation, according to TuraNews.kz, citing Kazinform.
Earlier, it was reported that Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived at the congress center to take part in the summit.
During today’s discussions, the participants will explore joint transport and logistics projects, strategic raw material partnerships, and the introduction of environmentally sustainable and efficient energy solutions.
António Costa previously stated that the Central Asia – European Union summit serves as a key platform for defining cooperation strategies that support the sustainable development of both the region and the EU.
Notably, President Tokayev arrived in Uzbekistan on a working visit the day before. During his trip, he held bilateral meetings with António Costa, Ursula von der Leyen, and Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
