Car Imports Surge in Uzbekistan, Electric Vehicles Quadruple

Uzbekistan has witnessed a remarkable surge in car imports, with figures soaring by 4.5 times, according to recent data released by the Statistics Agency.

In January 2024 alone, the country imported 10,237 passenger cars, totaling a value of 222.8 million US dollars. Notably, China emerged as the primary source of imported passenger cars, accounting for 7,571 units, followed by Korea with 2,373 units, and the USA with 219 units. Additionally, 74 passenger cars were imported from other countries during the same period.

Furthermore, the import of electric vehicles also experienced a significant surge during this time frame. A total of 1,594 electric vehicles, valued at 44.3 million US dollars, were imported from abroad in January 2024. China dominated the electric vehicle imports, with Uzbekistan acquiring 1,577 units from the country. Additionally, 8 electric vehicles were purchased from the UAE, while 9 units were sourced from other countries.

Comparing these figures to the same period last year, the import of electric vehicles has quadrupled, with 389 units worth 13 million US dollars being imported in January 2023.

These statistics highlight a substantial shift in the automotive market in Uzbekistan, with a significant increase in both traditional and electric vehicle imports, indicating evolving consumer preferences and market dynamics.
