Campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” Concludes in Kazakhstan and Central Asia
Ambassador-at-Large and Head of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan in Almaty, Zhanibek Abdrashov, delivered a welcoming speech at a cultural event marking the conclusion of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
The event was organized by UN Women in collaboration with the Central Asian Alliance to End Gender-Based Violence.
Zhanibek Abdrashov highlighted the successful implementation of the joint EU-UN initiative “Spotlight” in Central Asia, the establishment of the Central Asian Alliance to End Gender-Based Violence, and the adoption of the UN Human Rights Council resolution on eliminating domestic violence, which was supported by more than 60 countries. He noted the election of renowned Kazakh diplomat Madina Jarbussynova to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) as a significant achievement. Additionally, Kazakhstan served as a co-chair of the regional review “Beijing +30” and presented a roadmap for implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325, “Women, Peace and Security.” Female peacekeepers from Kazakhstan have also contributed successfully in the international arena.
The head of the MFA Representative Office assured that Kazakhstan remains committed to combating gender-based violence and protecting the rights of women and girls.
