Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov Resigns

Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov has tendered his resignation one day earlier than anticipated, as part of a prearranged rotation agreement.

Bulgarian TV channel BTV reported this development, citing the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The resignation was part of an agreement on a rotational government in Bulgaria, reached by the coalition comprising the Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party, the Union of Democratic Forces, and the coalition of political movements “Continuing Change” and “Democratic Bulgaria” after the parliamentary elections on April 2, 2023.

Denkov became prime minister following a vote of confidence from the parliament on June 6, 2023.

Denkov’s resignation must be approved by parliament.
