BRICS Games Kick Off in Kazan

Today, June 13, the BRICS Games officially began in Kazan (the capital of Tatarstan), where participants will compete for nearly 400 sets of medals across 27 sports.

The event is part of Russia’s chairmanship of the BRICS association in 2024 and, for the first time, includes athletes from non-BRICS countries who applied to participate. This open format has attracted approximately 4,000 athletes from over 90 countries.

Competitions will take place at 17 sports venues in Kazan and Moscow, with the first medals being awarded today. These include four sets in synchronized swimming and weightlifting, two in artistic gymnastics, six in wushu, and seven in sambo.

The Games, featuring events in 27 disciplines, will continue until June 23. A total of 387 medal sets will be contested by athletes from nearly 100 countries.
