Brekeshev explained Uzbekistan’s plan to build a nuclear power plant near Kazakhstan

Serikkali Brekeshev: We believe that Uzbekistan will make a decision on the construction of NPP taking into account the opinion of the Kazakh side.

Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Serikkali Brekeshev commented on Uzbekistan’s plans to build a nuclear power plant (NPP) on the border with southern Kazakhstan on the Majilis, Turanews.kz reports citing Informburo.kz

The minister stated that the employees of the Ministry of Ecology are negotiating with the Uzbek side. Meetings are ongoing and the next one will take place before the end of the year.

“This issue is very important for us. The decision on construction will be made taking into account the opinion of the Kazakh side,” the minister said.

Journalists asked how the goverment plans to ensure the safety of 2 million Kazakhs who live on the border.

“The decision on the construction of the mentioned nuclear power plant has not yet been made and in this regard, the Republic of Kazakhstan stands firm in its position to ensure the safety of all environmental, sanitary and epidemiological.” Brekeshev answered.

The NPP is planned to be built near Tuzkan Lake in the Jizzakh region. Possible construction in an area close to the Kazakhstan border area.
