Heydarov secured his victory by defeating French competitor Joan-Benjamin Gaba in the final held at the Champ de Mars arena.
With this triumph, Heydarov rose to the top of the Olympic podium, earning Azerbaijan a prestigious gold medal. In the same weight category, the bronze medals were awarded to Japan’s Soichi Hashimoto and Adil Osmanov, a Moldovan athlete of Azerbaijani descent.
