Azerbaijan to host European Championship in Qazaq Kuresi
Azerbaijan will host the European Championship in Qazaq Kuresi (Kazakh wrestling) this year, according to Yerbol Myrzabosynov, chairman of the Committee for Sports and Physical Culture, Turanews.kz reports.
The tournament is scheduled to be held in September or October 2023.
“Last year, for the first time, we organized the world championship in Qazaq Kuresi. Then athletes from 40 countries of the world took part in the competition. This is one of the ongoing works towards the inclusion of Qazaq Kuresi in the program of the Olympic Games,” Myrzabosynov said.
“This year, the Asian Championship in Qazaq Kuresi will be held in Uzbekistan. Now the European Championship is planned to be held in Azerbaijan. We are doing a lot of work in this direction,” he added.
Qazaq Kuresi is a traditional Kazakh wrestling sport that is similar to sumo. It is a full-contact sport that emphasizes strength, technique, and flexibility.
The European Championship in Qazaq Kuresi is a major event for the sport. It will be the first time that the tournament has been held in Azerbaijan.
The tournament is expected to attract athletes from all over Europe. It is a chance for athletes to compete for the title of European champion and to qualify for the world championships.
