Azerbaijan Takes Preventive Measures Against Monkeypox in Preparation for COP29 Conference

Azerbaijan has ramped up its efforts to prevent the spread of monkeypox, with a particular focus on the upcoming COP29 Conference in November. During a recent meeting organized by the Ministry of Health, representatives from various government bodies, including the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the State Border Service, and the State Customs Committee, discussed coordinated preventive actions.

The meeting addressed the need for strengthened surveillance and preventive measures due to the global spread of monkeypox, despite no reported cases in Azerbaijan. Special attention will be paid to border checkpoints, and a unified action plan was outlined to ensure the safety of the conference’s participants.

The discussions took place amid growing concerns about the global monkeypox outbreak, which has particularly affected African countries. The Democratic Republic of the Congo remains the epicenter of the outbreak, with cases reported in other parts of Africa and around the world. On September 1, Kenya confirmed its fourth case of the infection, while the World Health Organization has declared a public health emergency to combat the disease’s spread.

Azerbaijan continues to maintain tight epidemiological control to safeguard against potential cases and ensure public health safety during the international event.
