Azerbaijan Pledges $2 Million to Support Organization of Turkic States

The summit, which brought together leaders of Turkic nations, focused on enhancing cooperation and strengthening economic and logistical ties across the region.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced a $2 million financial contribution from Azerbaijan to the Secretariat of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and an additional $100,000 to the OTS Council of Elders. The announcement was made during the XI Summit of the OTS, held in the Ordo Unity building in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

President Aliyev underscored the need for increased funding, noting that the current budget of the OTS is insufficient to fulfill its mission effectively. He expressed hope that Azerbaijan’s financial support would enhance the organization’s capabilities and boost its strategic impact.

Aliyev also highlighted the growing significance of the East-West transport corridor, which links Central Asia with Turkey through Azerbaijan. He reported a 15% rise in transit traffic along this corridor from January to September 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. Azerbaijan, he noted, is committed to increasing investments to expand the corridor’s capacity. Projects aimed at digitalizing the Middle Corridor and facilitating trade are underway, aimed at improving logistics efficiency and reducing costs.
