Azerbaijan Announces Intention to Join BRICS

Azerbaijan has expressed its desire to become a full member of BRICS, as announced by Sahiba Gafarova, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis (Parliament), during the X BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg.

Gafarova highlighted Azerbaijan’s commitment to promoting dialogue, cooperation, and solidarity in its foreign policy, both in bilateral relations and on international platforms. She emphasized that Azerbaijan is keen to join BRICS and believes that enhancing cooperation at the parliamentary level will help achieve this goal.

She advocated for sincere dialogue within international parliamentary platforms to avoid double standards, citing the European Parliament as an example.

“Parliaments should promote cooperation, build bridges, and fight confrontation. We must promote sincere dialogue to prevent becoming a platform for double standards,” Gafarova stated.

The Speaker expressed confidence that the BRICS Parliamentary Forum would become an effective platform for cooperation.

BRICS is an international association consisting of five countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. These nations are known for their rapid growth and are among the world’s largest in terms of population, area, and GDP.
