Authorities Conduct Street Raids in Tashkent to Target Begging

In Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, efforts are underway to address the issue of begging on the streets.

According to Abdurashid Ochilov, Deputy Head of the Department of Internal Affairs in the Uchtepa District, raids have been conducted to identify beggars in various locations such as mosques, roadsides, intersections, and highways.

During these raids, authorities have taken action against 26 women who were found to be professionally engaged in begging, along with 13 minor children who were involved in the activity.

The children have been transferred to the Social Protection Center at the Main Department of Internal Affairs in the capital.

Furthermore, authorities also found three infants belonging to other people during the operation. These infants have been returned to their parents, who were also engaged in begging.

Ochilov emphasized the administrative and criminal consequences for begging, including administrative penalties and potential criminal charges for repeat offenders.
