According to TASS, two militants involved in the attacks have been neutralized. The National Anti-Terrorism Committee reported these coordinated assaults on the religious and police institutions.
Shamil Khadulaev, chairman of Dagestan’s Public Monitoring Commission, confirmed that a priest in Derbent and a church guard in Makhachkala were killed. In Makhachkala, gunmen also fired at a traffic police post on Ermoshkin Street. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan reported that six police officers were killed and 12 others were wounded in this attack.
Ongoing clashes in Makhachkala have led to a police patrol car being set on fire. Additionally, Derbent is experiencing power outages amid the violence. Authorities are searching for the suspects’ getaway vehicle, identified as a white Volkswagen Polo with license plate 921.
The mayor’s office in Derbent reported a fire at a synagogue following the attack, which was extinguished by the Emergency Situations Ministry. In response to the situation, Dagestan has enacted the “Interception” plan to apprehend the attackers, whose identities are currently being investigated.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan announced that two militants have been eliminated and security operations are ongoing. An operational headquarters has been established to address the situation, with regional head Sergei Melikov condemning the attacks as attempts to destabilize society and urging citizens to remain calm.
The Investigative Committee has opened a case under Article 205 of the Russian Federation’s Criminal Code, classifying the incidents as terrorist attacks. Investigators and criminologists are on the scene in Derbent to gather evidence.
A counter-terrorism operation is now in effect throughout Dagestan. Updated reports from the Muftiate of the Republic of Dagestan’s Telegram channel indicate that nine people, including seven law enforcement officers, were killed in the attacks, with 25 others injured.
Security measures have also been heightened in Kabardino-Balkaria in response to the violence in Dagestan. Additionally, Magomed Omarov, the head of Dagestan’s Sergokalinsky district, has been detained due to the involvement of his sons in the terrorist attacks in Makhachkala and Derbent.
