A forum on security and cooperation in Asia on the topic “Asia in a Changing World: Agenda for the Future” has started in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, Turanews.kz reports.
The forum is being held jointly by the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. More than 60 experts from Asian countries are taking part in the event.
In his opening remarks, Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu said that Kazakhstan is striving to turn Central Asia into a transport and logistics hub.
“It is known that our world has never been calm. The problems we face now can be dangerous to a certain extent. Given this, Kazakhstan continues its multi-vector, constructive policy. We are also firmly committed to the values and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and international law. In addition, Asia is known to play a decisive role in the global economy and politics. For its part, Kazakhstan comes up with initiatives aimed at ensuring the long-term and sustainable development of Asia,” Nurtleu said.
The minister noted that Kazakhstan pays special attention to the development of existing corridors and the opening of new routes in order to increase the volume of cargo passing through the countries of Central Asia.
“Kazakhstan is striving to turn Central Asia into a major transportation and logistics hub. We support and continue to develop the transcontinental transportation network in both the north-south and east-west directions, including the Trans-Caspian transport route,” Nurtleu concluded.
The forum is expected to discuss a wide range of issues related to security and cooperation in Asia, including the fight against terrorism, the prevention of conflict, and the promotion of economic development.
The forum is being held at a time when the global security landscape is undergoing significant changes. The war in Ukraine has highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in addressing common challenges. The forum in Astana is an opportunity for Asian countries to come together and discuss how they can work together to build a more secure and prosperous future.
