Arrests Made in Uzbekistan for Attempting to Sell Ancient Gold Tenge at $100,000

In the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan, two individuals were apprehended for attempting to sell a 19th-century gold coin for $100,000, TuraNews.kz reports.

The coin, identified as a cultural artifact, bears the inscription “Petru Bogdanovu 1899” and weighs 61.69 grams, according to the Department of Economic Crime.

The regional law enforcement agencies conducted an emergency operation, resulting in the arrest of citizens Z.A. and A.J., who were caught in the act of selling the gold coin to citizen A.E. for the aforementioned amount.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 177 of the Criminal Code, pertaining to currency values. The investigation is currently in progress.
