Arctic Anticyclone Brings Widespread Frost to Kazakhstan

Kazhydromet, the national meteorological service, has issued a weather forecast spanning February 15-17, outlining the anticipated conditions.

As an Arctic anticyclone gradually advances from the northwest, Kazakhstan is bracing for widespread frost, with nearly the entire country expected to be enveloped by cold temperatures.

Meteorologists have highlighted that most regions of Kazakhstan are poised to experience freezing temperatures due to the Arctic anticyclone’s movement across the territory. This weather system is set to usher in chilly conditions, with frost expected to prevail across vast swathes of the republic.

Moreover, the forecast predicts precipitation events on February 15 in the eastern regions and on February 16 in the southeastern parts of Kazakhstan. These precipitation events may manifest as heavy rain and snowfall, accompanied by the potential for ice formation and blizzards in some areas.

Overnight temperatures are projected to plummet significantly, particularly in the western, northwestern, northern, and central regions, where temperatures may drop to as low as 12-38 degrees Celsius below zero. On February 16, the eastern regions could experience temperatures as low as 18-35 degrees Celsius below zero, while the southern regions may see temperatures ranging from 10-30 degrees Celsius below zero. By February 17, temperatures are anticipated to dip further in the south and east, with expected lows of 15-28 degrees Celsius below zero.

As the cold wave sweeps across Kazakhstan, authorities advise residents to take necessary precautions to safeguard against the harsh weather conditions, including ensuring adequate heating and protection against frostbite.
