The Altai Territory in Russia will host the III International Altaic Forum “The Unity of Slavic and Turkic Peoples in History and Modernity” from October 18 to 20, 2023. The forum will be held at the Altai State University at the site of the Scientific and Educational Center for Altaic and Turkic Studies “Big Altai”, Turanews.kz reports.
The purpose of the forum is to continue the discussion of the international scientific community in the field of modern scientific research into the history of the Turkic civilization, as well as the discussion and development of integration programs in the field of education, science, and culture in the Eurasian space.
Leading scientists from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Hungary, and other countries are expected to participate in the forum. The forum will also bring together rectors of leading universities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as well-known political scientists, media journalists, and representatives of government bodies of Russia and Central Asian countries.
The key topics of the forum will be archaeological research and its role in studying the processes of evolution of the Turkic community of Greater Altai; ethnocultural, ethnographic, and political-legal processes in the Greater Altai and Central Asia in history and modern times; and reflection of the history of Slavic and Turkic peoples in the media space of Greater Altai and Central Asia.
In addition, the forum participants will discuss the “Concept of the historical and cultural unity of the Slavic and Turkic peoples,” put forward as a program document of the forum by experts from the Great Altay Research Center for Altaic and Turkic Studies. The concept reflects the connections and processes in the development of cooperation and interaction between the Slavic and Turkic peoples of Central Asia, based on centuries-old state-political and historical-cultural traditions and values.
The forum will also present the results of archaeological and ethnographic expeditions from the series “Great Altai – Turkic Heritage,” conducted in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan in 2023. The first volume of “Chronicles of Turkic Civilization” prepared by a team of scientists from seven countries will also be presented at the forum.
The forum is held with the support of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States. The co-organizers are the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Altai Territory, Rossotrudnichestvo, the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Lev Gumilev Eurasian National University, the Kyrgyz National University named after Zhusup Balasagyn, Gorno-Altai State University, the Russian Historical Society, the Association of Asian Universities, the Assembly of Peoples of Eurasia, and other scientific and educational organizations.
