Almaty Welcomes Over 1.5 Million Tourists in Nine Months

Almaty is a significant draw for foreign tourists, attracting every second visitor to Kazakhstan

Almaty has seen a notable surge in tourism, with more than 1.5 million visitors recorded since the beginning of the year, marking a 17.5% increase, according to Alisher Abdykadyrov, the Deputy Mayor of the city, TuraNews.kz reports.

During a briefing by the regional communications service, Abdykadyrov shared the statistics, indicating that the number of tourists has risen by 17.5%, surpassing 1.5 million individuals. Furthermore, the count of foreign tourists has notably spiked by 51.5%, reaching around 410 thousand people.

Recognizing the heightened demand during peak periods, efforts are being directed towards expanding accommodation options. New additions since the start of the year include eco-hotels featuring 16 glamping sites and a 112-room hotel. Construction is actively underway for five more facilities, providing 847 additional rooms, while the design phase for ten facilities with a combined total of 1,420 rooms is also in progress. The developments aim to enhance the city’s capacity to cater to the growing influx of tourists.
