Almaty Shakes as Magnitude 2 Earthquake Hits

Residents in Almaty experienced a magnitude 2 earthquake in the early morning hours of January 30, 2024.

The seismic event, classified as an aftershock, was recorded at 04:27 local time by the seismic station network operated by “Some KZ” in Kazakhstan.

According to experts from the Seismological Research Center, this marks another instance of residents in Almaty feeling the tremors. The earthquake’s underground points reached a magnitude of two, and the epicenter was identified as being 293 kilometers southeast of the city within Chinese territory.

The earthquake’s energy class was measured at 13.3, with a magnitude MPV of 5.8 and a depth of 10 kilometers. Sensory information, based on the MSK-64 scale, indicated a reading of 2 points in Almaty.

Additionally, Kazakh seismologists recorded three more aftershocks originating in China at 03:03, 05:17, and 05:30.
