Almaty Awarded the Title of World Craft City

Almaty has officially been granted the status of World Craft City by the World Crafts Council, recognizing the city’s contribution to preserving cultural heritage, promoting crafts, and supporting the creative economy, reports Kazinform.

The official ceremony took place during the ALA CRAFT 2025 international festival held in Almaty, which brought together more than 100 artisans from Kazakhstan, Asia, Europe, Australia, and the United States.

“Receiving the World Craft City title is a significant achievement for our city. This status strengthens Almaty’s international reputation as a center of creative industries and cultural tourism. It also paves the way for promoting local crafts globally, developing educational programs, international craft residencies, and creating a sustainable ecosystem integrated into the city’s economy,” said Galiya Tokseitova, Head of Almaty’s Tourism Department.
