Aktobe recently played host to a prestigious exhibition highlighting the majestic Kazakh greyhound breed, known as Tazy. Approximately 100 dogs from various regions participated in this notable event, with breeders and enthusiasts flocking from all corners of the region, as reported by the Aktobe regional administration.

This exhibition held special significance, aligning with the directives of the Head of State to preserve Kazakhstan’s cherished national heritage – the Tazy and Tobet dog breeds. The Presidential Administration was tasked with overseeing these preservation efforts, underscoring the importance of safeguarding these iconic breeds. In response to these directives, Aktobe’s hippodrome became the venue for the showcase of Kazakh greyhounds.

According to Zhasulan Zhaksylykov, Vice-President of the Aktobe regional federation “Kumay Tazy,” concerted efforts are underway to ensure the preservation of this esteemed dog breed. Initiatives such as the Salburyn festival, held last fall with the participation of hunters and their loyal Tazy companions, have contributed to increasing ownership and awareness of Tazy dogs. Zhaksylykov emphasizes the high level of training provided to these animals, further enhancing their stature.

Esteemed dog handlers from Astana and Almaty were invited to evaluate the greyhounds participating in the exhibition. These experts meticulously assessed various criteria, including the dogs’ physical attributes, dental and claw health, leg structure, and lineage purity. Greyhounds meeting the stringent standards were duly recognized with paperwork, granting them eligibility to partake in international exhibitions. Notably, 50 dogs received this esteemed documentation.

Rosa Dolenko, the head of the dog handlers club, expressed pride in the exhibition’s success, highlighting the overarching goal of promoting the Kazakh greyhound breed on a global platform. With expert commendation for all participating greyhounds, the event serves as a testament to the dedication and passion of breeders and enthusiasts alike in preserving Kazakhstan’s rich canine heritage.
