Aitzhan Kalmakhanov Crowned World Champion in Greco-Roman Wrestling

At the World Wrestling Championships in Croatia, Aitzhan Kalmakhanov, a 19-year-old wrestler of Kazakh origin representing Uzbekistan, claimed the gold medal in the 63 kg weight category.

Kalmakhanov triumphed in the final against South Korea’s Chung Han-Jae, having earlier defeated Kazakhstan’s Yerzhet Zharylkasyn in the quarterfinals.

Already a world and Asian youth champion, Kalmakhanov has added another major title to his career. Since the beginning of this year, he has secured victories at three major international tournaments.

In the same championship, Kazakhstan’s Aidos Sultangali won the 60 kg category, becoming the first Kazakh wrestler of the 21st century to capture a world title in Greco-Roman wrestling.
