Airlines Begin Inspections of Fuel Switches on Boeing Aircraft After Air India Incident

Following a recent aviation incident involving an Air India flight, airlines across several countries have launched inspections of fuel selector switches on Boeing aircraft, according to Reuters.

The checks are being conducted on aircraft operated by major carriers including Australia’s Qantas Airways, Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines (JAL), South Korea’s Korean Air, and Singapore Airlines.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had already issued a directive back in 2018 recommending checks of fuel switch systems to ensure compliance with technical standards.

In the wake of the Air India incident, India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced it had initiated its own inspection of the locking mechanisms in Boeing’s fuel switch systems.

Reuters reports that Air India has already inspected half of its Boeing 787 fleet and most of its Boeing 737 aircraft, with no faults detected so far.
