Air Astana has provided an official explanation regarding the return of one of its aircraft during a flight on December 17, 2025, Zakon.kz reports.
According to the airline’s press service, the aircraft operating flight KC 851 from Almaty to Astana returned to the departure airport following a decision by the flight crew. The reason was the detection of an unusual smell from the onboard air conditioning system.
To ensure flight safety, the aircraft commander decided to return to Almaty. The landing was completed safely and as scheduled at 07:40 local time.
Passengers were offered hot and cold beverages as well as light snacks. Departure to Astana was arranged on another aircraft at 10:15.
A standard technical inspection is being conducted following the incident.
