Agreement Signed for China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Project in Beijing
The leaders of China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan sent video congratulations at the signing ceremony for a major railway project, held in Beijing. The agreement, part of the Belt and Road Initiative, marks a significant step in the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
According to a statement from China’s Foreign Ministry, Chinese President Xi Jinping described the railway as a strategic project that links China with Central Asia and an important milestone in the collaborative Belt and Road efforts of the three countries. Xi emphasized that the agreement establishes a solid legal foundation for the railway’s construction, highlighting the transition of the project from a concept to a tangible reality. He noted that this development showcases the countries’ commitment to fostering cooperation and mutual development.
Xi Jinping affirmed China’s readiness to work with Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to finalize all preparatory activities and expedite the completion of this strategic corridor. He stressed that the railway will benefit the populations of the three nations and contribute to the region’s economic and social growth.
Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov stated that the project embodies the primary cooperation among the three countries within the Belt and Road framework. He pointed out that upon completion, the railway will establish a new transport line connecting Asia with Europe and the Gulf countries.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted that the railway will serve as the shortest route linking China with Central Asia. He added that the project will open new markets in South Asia and the Middle East for regional countries.
The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will begin in Kashgar, located in China’s Xinjiang Autonomous Region, traverse through Kyrgyzstan, and reach Uzbekistan. Future plans include extending the railway network to connect with Western and South Asian countries.
