A Kyrgyzstani child with a hole in the heart had a operation in Türkiye

10-year-old Kyrgyzstani Leila Dzhalalova, who came to Türkiye for treatment due to the hole between her heart auricles, had a operation with the special method applied with a covered stent that avoids the painful intensive care process and the scars after the surgery.

in May 2022, Leila Dzhalalova applied to a doctor with complaints of dizziness, nausea and weakness. After the examinations, Leila was diagnosed with sinus venosus type Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), which is defined as the opening between the atria, and accompanying pulmonary vein disorder (partial pulmonary venous return anomaly).

Leila was in need a open heart surgery. Her family wanted their daughter to have the surgery nowhere but in Türkiye because of their trust in the health system.

With the support of a non-governmental organization operating in Kyrgyzstan has contacted to the Ministry of Health of the country and little Leila brought to Türkiye and she was referred to Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital.

The family were bursting with happiness when they learned about the possibility of an alternative treatment which by inserting a covered stent instead of open heart surgery and also the operation will not leave scars and makes it easier to return to daily life by shortening the recovery time.

After the operation which one was proceded by Pediatric Cardiology Education and Administrative Officer Prof. Dr. Ahmet Celebi and his team, little Leila recovered her health in a short time.
