The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan has provided updated figures on the flooding situation.
According to Saipash Erasyl, a senior official from the Committee for Civil Defense and Military Units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, rescue efforts have successfully evacuated over 85,000 people, with 8,349 individuals currently residing in temporary accommodation centers. This was announced during a briefing at the Central Communications Service.
The country is facing 29 local emergency situations across nine regions, including Aktobe, Kostanay, West Kazakhstan, Ulytau, Akmola, Karaganda, Atyrau, Pavlodar, and North Kazakhstan.
Alina Ismagulova, the press secretary of the RSE “Kazhydromet,” highlighted the ongoing meteorological challenges across Kazakhstan. She mentioned that while the weather remains unstable in most parts of the country, no precipitation is expected in the west and southwest regions. Ismagulova warned of fog, increased winds, ice formation in the north, and the possibility of squalls and hail in the south and southeast.
In response to the escalating situation, weather forecasters and hydrologists have transitioned to round-the-clock operations. Several regions, including Atyrau, Aktobe, Kostanay, West Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, Akmola, East Kazakhstan, and Abay, are designated as flood-hazard zones.
Recent reports from Kazhydromet indicate nine storm warnings and nine hydrological warnings issued on April 8 alone.
Earlier assessments revealed that 3,358 private residential buildings, 326 yards, and 2,089 country houses across six regions remain submerged due to the floods.
