50,000 Signatures Collected for Time Zone Restoration in Kazakhstan

The Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan has announced that the required signatures for a petition to restore the time zone have been collected.

A petition for the restoration of the time zone in Kazakhstan has garnered 50,000 signatures, the necessary amount for it to be considered.

According to Article 90-4 of the Administrative Violations Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, after reaching the threshold of 50,000 signatures, the Ministry of Trade and Integration has accepted the petition for review. As per Article 90-5 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the review period is 40 working days from the date of registration. The Ministry of Trade and Integration will establish a working group that includes representatives from interested parties, government agencies, and public associations.

The review process will be conducted in accordance with legal requirements.

It is noteworthy that the first proposal to switch to a unified time zone in Kazakhstan was made in 2020. The government decree was signed by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov. On the night of February 29 to March 1, 2024, the local time was shifted back by one hour.
