According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov held a phone conversation with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
During the conversation, the parties discussed the state and development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Both sides highlighted the rapid growth of relations between Central Asia and Europe, emphasizing the many achievements from their mutual cooperation and the opportunities for further engagement.
It was also mentioned that the previously postponed 3rd Central Asia-EU summit will be held in the historic city of Samarkand in the first half of this year.
The summit, originally planned to take place in Samarkand in the spring of 2024, was delayed for several reasons.
The first Central Asia-EU summit, with the participation of the heads of state of Central Asia and senior EU officials, took place in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, in October 2022. The second summit was held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, in June 2023.
