100th Anniversary of Shora Sarybayev, Founder of Turkic Dialectology

Kazakhstan marks the 100th anniversary of academician Shora Sarybayev, the pioneer of dialectology in the Turkic world.

A dedicated linguist, Sarybayev made significant contributions to studying dialects, especially within Turkic languages, by documenting regional variations and forgotten words.

Experts note that Sarybayev was the first in the Turkic world to defend a doctoral dissertation in dialectology. His work remains a valuable resource for ethnographic and linguistic studies. A commemorative conference was recently held in his hometown, Tashkent, gathering scholars from across Central Asia.
