13th International Music Festival “Oriental Songs” Begins in Uzbekistan

After a five-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 13th International Music Festival "Sharq Taronalari" ("Oriental Songs") has resumed in Samarkand, Uzbekistan

The event, which started yesterday, welcomes over 400 artists and scholars from nearly 80 countries, according to a statement from the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

The festival also includes an international scientific and practical conference titled “Musical Culture of the Peoples of the East: Principles of Creative Integration in the Processes of Globalization.” This gathering aims to foster discussions on how Eastern musical traditions can adapt and thrive in the modern world.

The grand opening of the festival was led by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Dignitaries from UNESCO, TURKSOY, the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, and the CIS, among others, also attended the ceremony.

In his speech, President Mirziyoyev emphasized the festival’s global significance, calling it a celebration of world melodies and an important platform for promoting the international recognition of ancient Eastern musical traditions.
