100 Turtles Seized at Kyrgyz-Uzbek Border During Smuggling Attempt
Border guards at the “Dostuk” checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border thwarted an attempt to illegally transport a large number of aquarium turtles.
According to Kyrgyzstan’s State Border Service under the National Security Committee, a 34-year-old Kyrgyz citizen tried to smuggle 100 live turtles wrapped in plastic bags inside a backpack during passport control. The individual had no official documentation permitting the cross-border transport of animals.
He claimed that the turtles were handed over to him by an unidentified person, and he was instructed to deliver them from Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan.
The offender and the confiscated turtles were handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and legal action.
