Economic Cooperation Organization Summit to be held in Uzbekistan in November

The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Heads of State Summit will be held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, in November.

In the statement made by the Presidential Office of Uzbekistan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Secretary General of the Organization, Husrev Naziri, who was in Tashkent within the scope of the ECO Foreign Ministers Meeting.

During the meeting, Naziri congratulated Mirziyoyev for the successful term presidency of Uzbekistan in the organization and noted that important initiatives and activities in trade, economy, agriculture, energy, tourism and other fields gave a strong impetus to constructive cooperation within the ECO.

The parties discussed the issues related to the further strengthening of regional relations and expressed their satisfaction with the 70 percent increase in Uzbekistan’s trade with the member countries of the organization and the 5-fold increase in the number of joint ventures and projects in the country in recent years.

Also the parties exchanged views on preparations for the ECO Heads of State Summit to be held in Tashkent in November and on issues related to the summit’s agenda.

At the meeting, Naziri stated that they are ready to work closely with Uzbekistan to expand multilateral cooperation within the framework of the ECO.

The ECO Heads of State Summit which was established in 1985, it is held every two years. Türkiye, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan are the members states and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is an observer member.
