Kazakhstani Fencers Become World Champions

The Kazakhstan national fencing team won gold at the 2026 World Championships in Hong Kong, according to the National Olympic Committee (NOC).

The men’s épée team claimed the top spot on the podium. Ruslan Kurbanov, Yerlik Sertay, Kirill Prokhodov, and Vadim Sharlaimov fought their way to the final, where they faced the Ukrainian team for the gold medal. The decisive match ended in favor of Kazakhstan with a score of 45:40. Throughout the tournament, the Kazakhstani fencers defeated Finland (45:39), Uzbekistan (28:27), Denmark (45:36), and Egypt (41:32).

With this victory, the épée team achieved a historic milestone. Previously, the team’s highest achievement in this discipline was a bronze medal won in 2025. Additionally, Ruslan Kurbanov claimed an individual bronze medal in 2023.
