Kazakhstan to Tighten Measures Against Illegal Vehicle Imports from September 1

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov instructed during a government meeting on July 21, 2026, to implement new approaches in customs administration and technical regulation by September 1 to prevent the illegal import of vehicles into Kazakhstan.

The Head of Government emphasized that cases of illegal vehicle entry continue to be recorded across the country. “These vehicles often fail to meet technical and environmental standards, which is partly due to legal loopholes in enforcing customs legislation. The Ministry of Finance, together with the Ministry of Industry, must develop a comprehensive set of measures within 10 days to prevent illegal vehicle imports,” stated Olzhas Bektenov.

He noted that the new approaches in customs administration and technical regulation must take effect on September 1 of this year, and also ordered relevant awareness campaigns to be conducted for the public.
