The signing ceremony held at the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) building in the capital Nicosia started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem of both countries. In the program, which continued with the screening of the “National Sportsman Scholarship” promotional film, a memorandum of understanding “One Hundred Percent Support to Turkic Sports in Higher Education” was signed between Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoglu, Minister of Youth and Sports of Türkiye and the rectors of 19 universities.
In his speech at the ceremony, Minister Kasapoglu stated that in Türkiye, the study “One Hundred Percent Support to Turkic Sports in Higher Education” is implemented for young people who want to pursue their dreams of sports and career together. And now it is being implemented in the TRNC as well.
I sincerely wish that the agreement they signed today would bring goodness to Turkic sports and the TRNC.
Emphasizing that young people with a different development and potential than their peers should be subjected to different programs in order to be successful and reveal their full potential, Kasapoglu pointed out that many countries carry out activities to pave the way for superior talents in arts, sports and science.
Kasapoglu stated that children who are involved in sports and their families experience indecision between education and sports after the child reaches a certain age, and said:
“As the Ministry, we took a step two years ago and made an agreement with 56 foundation universities in Türkiye with the theme of ‘One hundred percent Support to Turkic Sports in Higher Education’. A total of 75 universities are now included in the program, together with the universities in the TRNC. Representing us in international competitions, “Athletes who are successful and put forth their efforts will be able to study with full scholarship if they get the base score of the universities in the program. In this way, young people will have the opportunity to pursue a career in both sports and academia.”
