
During January–May 2026, Kazakhstan’s domestic trade maintained a steady positive dynamic. According to the Bureau of National Statistics, the physical volume index of the “Trade” sector reached 105.6% compared to the same period last year, TuraNews.kz reports citing Kazinform.
During the reporting period, wholesale trade volume reached 19.6 trillion tenge, which is a 6.5% increase compared to the same period last year. This indicator significantly contributed to the rise in domestic trade turnover and the strengthening of overall economic activity.
Concurrently, the retail trade sector also continued its positive trend. In the first five months of 2026, retail trade volume reached 9 trillion tenge, showing a 3.6% growth in real terms.
The leading regions in terms of trade volume include the cities of Almaty (holding a 34.5% share of the total volume) and Astana (13.9%), followed by Atyrau (11.5%) and Karaganda (6.1%) regions, and the city of Shymkent (5%).
