The city of Almaty hosted the first international Nomadic Art festival and scientific conference titled “The Global Image of Steppe Culture.” The event was organized as part of the Nauryznama celebrations dedicated to March 16 — the Day of Culture and National Traditions.
The festival brought together researchers, designers, and traditional artisans from different countries. The program included the conference “National Heritage — A Legacy of Generations: Synergy of Museum Artifacts and Ethnodesign,” fashion shows featuring ethnic collections by local and international designers, an international exhibition of handicraft masters, and workshops on ancient craft techniques.
Organizers said the initiative aims to promote nomadic cultural heritage, support the development of modern ethnodesign, and strengthen international creative partnerships. The event served as a platform connecting museum heritage, traditional crafts, fashion, and contemporary creative industries.
Special attention was given to the presentation of Taraz, Turkestan and Almaty — cities included in the global network of craft cities known as World Craft Cities.
Visitors explored ethnographic exhibitions, modern art installations, and interactive zones showcasing traditional crafts such as felt making, ceramics, jewelry crafting, and bone carving.
The festival also hosted B2B meetings with experts from the World Craft Council. As a result, strategic agreements were signed to promote Central Asian artisans and expand their access to international markets.
