Several Regions of Kazakhstan Shift Students to Online Learning Amid Severe Weather

Strong winds and blizzard conditions have forced several regions across Kazakhstan to move students to дистанционное обучение on February 11, 2026.

In Astana, first-shift students from grades 0 to 6 will study online due to powerful winds and icy conditions.

In the Aktobe region, all schools have switched both first- and second-shift students in grades 1–11 to remote learning for the day.

In the Pavlodar region, first-shift students in grades 1–11, as well as first- and second-year college students, will attend classes online because of icy roads.

In the East Kazakhstan region, restrictions vary by district. In the Kurshim district, severe winds reaching 25–30 m/s and blizzard conditions prompted a full transition to remote learning in several schools for grades 0–11, while in others grades 0–9 will study online.

In Ridder, all first-shift students in grades 0–9 have been transferred to дистанционное обучение due to icy roads, strong winds and snowfall.

In the Ulan district, students in grades 0–9 from both shifts will study remotely amid ice, snow and gusty winds.

In the Kostanay region, weather-related measures were introduced in several areas. In Arkalyk, first-shift students in grades 1–11 moved online as temperatures dropped to –16°C with winds up to 10 m/s and blizzard conditions. In the Amangeldi district, first-shift students in grades 0–9 switched to remote learning due to strong winds. In the Zhangeldi district, first-shift students in grades 0–6 will study online as temperatures fell to –19°C.

Authorities urge parents and students to monitor official announcements as weather conditions remain unstable across parts of the country.
