Uzbekistan has begun processing gold imported from Afghanistan at the Termiz Gold Production LLC facility, located in the free trade zone of the Termez International Trade Center. The company specializes in jewelry manufacturing, according to UzA news agency.
To mark the launch, the head of the Surkhandarya Regional Customs Administration, I. Gulomov, met with company executives and representatives of Afghan gold mining firms. Discussions focused on customs processing procedures and the benefits of placing raw materials under a special customs regime.
Officials emphasized that the project will contribute to strengthening regional industrial capacity, developing the jewelry sector, and increasing export volumes.
According to the regional customs administration, the initiative was implemented with the support of local authorities and the Customs Committee. It allows gold that was previously transported in transit to third countries to be processed within the Surkhandarya customs zone and exported as semi finished products with higher added value.
At the initial stage, 20 kilograms of gold worth approximately 2.9 million US dollars have been sent for processing.
