Earthquake Recorded in Tajikistan, Tremors Felt in Uzbekistan

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck Tajikistan in the early hours of January 9. No information about casualties or damage has been reported so far.

According to preliminary data from the Data Center of the Institute of Geophysical Research of Kazakhstan’s National Nuclear Center, the tremor occurred at 02:14 Astana time (21:14 GMT on January 8). The epicenter was located at 38.74° north latitude and 73.23° east longitude, at a depth of 187 kilometers. The earthquake’s energy class was estimated at K=12.7.

As reported by the NOVA24-LIVE Telegram channel, the earthquake was also felt in several regions of Uzbekistan. The intensity at the epicenter reached 4.0 points. In Uzbekistan, tremors of 2–3 points were recorded in the Fergana region, while residents of Andijan and Namangan regions reported shaking of up to 2 points.
