Türkiye Launches Large-Scale Campaign Against Illegal Betting

New regulations require banks and fintech firms to work closely with law enforcement

Türkiye has stepped up its crackdown on illegal gambling by tightening legislation and bringing banks into the enforcement process. According to Sports24.kz, Turkish banks have begun warning customers about the risks of participating in illegal online betting and the potential legal consequences, including the freezing of bank accounts.

The measures are being implemented under a government “Action Plan” led by Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç and backed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The campaign follows the adoption of the 11th Judicial Reform Package in December.

The reform significantly expands prosecutors’ powers to seize assets and block accounts, while increasing both criminal and financial penalties for illegal gambling activities. Banks and payment providers are now required to halt suspicious transactions and supply account information to authorities within ten days upon request.

Officials say pressure on the illegal gambling market will continue through 2026, with plans to strengthen international cooperation, including with neighboring countries.
