Former US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has criticized Washington’s military actions in Venezuela, saying that even though Nicolás Maduro is a dictator, the intervention was unlawful and misguided.
In a post on X, Harris argued that Donald Trump’s actions do not make the United States safer or stronger. She said the operation endangered US troops, cost billions of dollars, and destabilized the region without any clear legal authority or strategic benefit.
Harris warned that wars pursued under the banners of regime change or oil interests inevitably lead to chaos and ultimately harm American families. “The American people do not want this and are tired of misinformation,” she said.
The statement follows a US special operation in Caracas that resulted in the detention of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. At least 40 people were reported killed during the operation. Trump later said the Venezuelan leader and his spouse were being transferred to New York, where US authorities have filed multiple charges, including narco-terrorism.
