Former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev Stripped of All State Honors

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has signed a decree revoking all state awards previously granted to former president Almazbek Atambayev, Kazinform reports.

The decision follows a ruling issued on 3 June 2025 by the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek. Under the decree, Atambayev has been stripped of every high-level national distinction, including:

  • the highest title of “Hero of the Kyrgyz Republic”;
  • the Manas Order, 2nd Class;
  • the Danaker Order;
  • the Dank Medal.

All presidential decrees that originally conferred these awards have now been annulled.

The Service of Court Bailiffs under the Prosecutor General’s Office has been instructed to seize the awards and accompanying documents and transfer them to the State Fund of Official Decorations.

In June 2025, the same district court sentenced Atambayev in absentia to 11 years and 6 months in prison, with property confiscation and loss of all state honors, for his involvement in the August 2019 Koi-Tash events.
