Turkish security forces have carried out a large-scale operation targeting individuals linked to the Islamic State group (banned in Kazakhstan), detaining 115 suspects, TuraNews.kz reports.
According to Euronews, arrest warrants were issued for 137 people, and police launched coordinated searches at 124 locations across the city. Officers seized handguns, ammunition, and various documents during the raids.
Investigators say the suspects were identified through financial channels used to support ISIS fighters and their families in conflict zones in Syria.
Turkey’s Prosecutor General’s Office stated that the detainees had been spreading propaganda encouraging attacks against non-Muslims ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations. Some of those arrested had previously been active in conflict regions, while others were already wanted on terrorism charges both nationally and internationally.
Authorities report that efforts to locate and apprehend additional fugitives are continuing.
