Türkiye Plans to Recycle More Than 25 Billion Bottles Annually

Türkiye has launched a deposit management system aimed at recycling over 25 billion beverage bottles each year, Anadolu Agency reports.

According to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, packaging bearing a deposit logo will be collected through dedicated machines and sent for recycling. Sakarya Province and Ankara’s Kızılcahamam district have been selected as pilot areas, while installation of deposit machines has begun in Erzurum, Mersin, Gaziantep, Samsun, Izmir and Konya.

Under the system, glass, plastic and metal containers are collected, cleaned and sorted before being reused in production processes. The project seeks to improve recycling efficiency and reduce reliance on imported raw materials.

The initiative is expected to cut environmental pollution, conserve natural resources and reduce urban waste. Its contribution to the national economy is estimated at around €520 billion annually, while also promoting energy savings, lower carbon emissions and a stronger circular economy model.
