Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has bestowed the country’s highest state award, the “Altyn Qyran” Order, upon Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The ceremony took place yesterday in Astana, the Akorda press service reported.
During the event, Tokayev emphasized Berdimuhamedov’s significant contribution as a modern statesman and a progressive leader who is steadily reinforcing Turkmenistan’s governance, economic capacity and its international standing.
He noted that President Berdimuhamedov is confidently continuing the forward-looking course initiated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. Tokayev praised Turkmenistan’s rapid economic growth, its ongoing industrial and transport modernization, as well as major initiatives in energy development and technological advancement. Large-scale social programs and improvements in education and science were also highlighted as key achievements.
Tokayev underscored Turkmenistan’s active foreign policy, which has strengthened Ashgabat’s role as a center of diplomacy, peace and stability. He recalled that the UN General Assembly had endorsed Turkmenistan’s proposal to declare 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust—an initiative demonstrating the country’s responsible global engagement.
The Kazakh leader also noted Berdimuhamedov’s personal contribution to deepening friendship, mutual understanding and strategic partnership between the two nations. According to Tokayev, the results of the bilateral talks held that day prove the strong potential of Kazakh–Turkmen relations.
In his remarks, President Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to Tokayev and the people of Kazakhstan for the prestigious honor, describing it as a symbol of deep respect for the Turkmen nation. He emphasized that centuries-old ties of friendship and good neighborliness continue to shape the strong cooperation between the two states and their coordinated positions on regional and global issues.
